Robert Wilcox, LPCC, Ph.D
Born in South Boston Massachusetts which is where I got my undergraduate education and start in the business in 1973. Originally started at Taunton State Hospital as a Nursing Assistant during undergraduate school. At graduation I transferred to the VAMC in Boston and entered their Diploma RN program. I arrived in New Mexico in March of 1979 and started at UNM until I transferred to NMHU for my MS in Psychology. My BS in Psychology was accomplished in Massachusetts where I had started to do therapy with individuals and groups. I completed my PsyD three weeks before my 60th birthday in 2017. I was chief diagnostician with the Corrections department for a time with an emphasis on neuropsychological and forensic psychological evaluations. I was fortunate to teach Psychology and Human Service courses at UNM’s Valencia Campus for 22 years. I have been working in mental health since 1973 and started addictions work in 1985. At present I have focused the last 10 years on trauma work with individuals and families. I started a Therapeutic Martial Arts Program in 1991 and continue with that today. For this I teach T’ai Chi and Boxing and kickboxing. And my crowning achievement has been my 37 years of continuous sobriety.
